Addressing this international film event, festival director Mohammad Hamidi-Moqadam pointed out that for a year now, we have all forgotten the joy of watching a movie on the big screen due to the spread of the Coronavirus.
“Last year we held the festival in the online format, and this year we are running the festival according to protocols and with a limited number of guests and audience,” he said.
Commenting on the experience of holding the 14th Cinema Verite in the online format, he added: “We are happy that the coronavirus did not prevent the festival from being held and that the documentary’s family had a different experience and took the initiative to broadcast the film online last year. “
“The documentary filmmakers took a lot of courage and broadcast their films online for two years,” he added.
He noted that from the Era of Sacred Defense (eight years of Iraq-imposed war on Iran 1980-88) until now, Iranian documentary filmmakers have always been pioneers, and the truth has been recorded. through the camera of these courageous documentary filmmakers.
Regarding the status of documentaries, Hamidi-Moqaddam said: “We should also do our best to make festivals an important place for works to grow, be promoted and exhibited. “
The festival director noted that “Our point of view at the Documentary and Experimental Film Center is that the documentary is a mirror of today’s society and that the mind of the filmmaker must evolve according to the society”.
And about the restoration of the film “Saffron”, he said, “This year, with the help of the National Film House of Iran, the” Saffron “directed by Ebrahim Mokhtari has been restored and it has been decided that this process will be continued in the future. “

The Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) organizes the Iran International Documentary Film Festival every year.
