American Aquarium announces new album and tour with Caroline Spence, shares new song

Raleigh Alternative Country Band american aquarium announced a new album, Chicamacomique, due June 10 via Losing Side Records/Thirty Tigers (pre-order). It was produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Hooray for the Riff Raff, etc.), features co-writing contributions from Lori McKenna and Hayes-Carll, and it finds frontman BJ Barham reflecting on personal loss, including the recent deaths of his mother and grandmother. He says:

In my sixteen year career, I’ve never been so proud of a set of songs, lyrically or stylistically. They have weight, but they are not weighed down. It’s a sad disc, which feels good. It is the culmination of almost two decades of work. Chicamacomique unlike anything we’ve ever done, but it sits comfortably among the rest of our catalog.

You can hear that in lead single “All I Needed,” which has a gloomy undertone but feels airy, uplifting, and joyful. Listen and watch the video below.

American Aquarium also announced an extensive tour, including a run with support from Caroline Spencer hitting NYC Brooklyn does June 28. Tickets for this show are on sale now. All dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, Caroline Spence’s new album True North (which features a duet with The National’s Matt Berninger) is out April 29 via Rounder Records, and she also has headlining shows coming up, including one in NYC. Rockwood Music Hall on April 27 with Brooke Annibale, who just signed to Nettwerk and released his new single “What If You” yesterday. All of Caroline’s dates are also listed below.
