BHFF Jury Awards ‘Give Me An A’, ‘Mother Superior’ among winners – The Hollywood Reporter

Other Jury Prize winners from the main competition at the BHFF, which ran October 13-20 with events in Williamsburg and Prospect Park, included Wolfszahn for Best Director, Megalomaniac’s Eline Schumacher for the best interpretation and a special mention from the jury for the film directed by Paolo Strippoli Flow.

The competition’s main jury, made up of filmmaker Zach Clark, HuffPost Culture editor Candice Frederick and author Kate Robertson, praised mother superior – a feature debut by Austrian director Wolfszahn – as “a carefully crafted folk story exploring völkisch occultism with a captivating aesthetic indebted to the Gothic tradition and tight editing, each frame carefully studied”.

The director thanked the jury for the honor, noting that she felt “very honored to be recognized among such an incredible selection” of films and directors before adding that the award “goes to my team and my cast. powerful” for “their inspiration, passion, sweat and determination.

The Golden Audience Award went to Give me an A directors Natasha Halevi, Meg Swertlow, Bonnie Discepolo, Danin Jacquay, Annie Bond, Sarah Kopkin, Monica Moore-Suryiage, Caitlin Hargraves, Megan Rosati, Hannah Alline, Avital Ash, Mary C. Russell, Valerie Finkel, Kelly Nygaard, Loren Escandon and Francesca Maldonado.

“It’s so meaningful to our team because this film is really audience-centric and creates space for discussion with an audience,” said the film’s executive producer and director, Halevi. “We hope people really see this as a different type of film that’s made for conversation more than anything. We really wanted to put the audience first, and it feels like we may have! I hope everyone who sees this is inspired to tell more people about women’s reproductive rights and to get out there and vote!

The anthology series, which explores abortion through 15 short films in response to the overthrow of Roe v. Wade, was one of the most starred entries of the festival along with Alyssa Milano, Virginia Madsen, Gina Torres, Milana Vayntrub, Jennifer Holland, Sean Gunn, Molly C. Quinn, Jason George and Jackie Tohn, among others in the various casts of short films.

The film held a special screening during the horror festival, followed by a panel with lead creative producer and Halevi, segment directors Monica Moore-Suriyage and Loren Escandon, actor Sean Gunn and senior director of Planned Parenthood, Kate Smith. All proceeds from the screening were donated to the New York Abortion Access Fund.

The judging panel for this year’s Head Trip Features competition, made up of IFC Films Director of Acquisitions and Productions Adam Koehler, Swallowed director Carter Smith and actress, screenwriter and filmmaker Christine Nyland, selected Kristoffer Borgli’s film sick of me as best feature with falcon lakeCharlotte Le Bon awarded for best director.

For the BHFF Shorts section, sworn by master of hell co-writer, co-director and star Zelda Adams, co-host of the Certified Forgotten Podcast Matthew Monagle and the girl director Corey Deshon, Fredrik S. Hana’s Beyond was honored as Best Short Film, Tistblebu director Simon Matthew Valentine as Best Director and the Special Jury Prize went to Tiffany Kimmel Everyone goes to the hospital.

This year’s Brooklyn Horror Festival featured program sections Nightmare Fuel, Head Trip, Home Invasion and Slayed as well as sold-out short blocks. Supernatural coming-of-age film at Cannes screened falcon lake served as centerpiece and Lorcan Finnegan Eva Green-featured Nocebo as opening night movie with Prime Video’s Run darling, run among its 2022 range.
