Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has stepped down Miley’s New Years Party, a concert hosted by Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson to celebrate the New Year tonight (December 31). He broke the news in an update on his Instagram Story. You can view the message below.
Armstrong noted that he had been exposed to COVID, but luckily tested negative. Out of caution, he decided not to travel to Miami, Florida for the celebration.
Saweetie, Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile, Anitta, 24kGoldn and Kitty Ca $ h are still scheduled to perform on the two-hour show, which will air live on NBC and Peacock starting at 10:30 a.m. EST. So far, NBC has not said whether or not there will be a replacement for Armstrong.
Miley’s New Years Party replaces Carson Daly’s New Years special, which he hosted on NBC since 2004. Lorne Michael of Saturday Night Live is the event’s executive producer. You can find out how to watch the special here.
Despite the madness of the pandemic, which caused Green Day to postpone his “Hella Mega” tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer, Armstrong has always been busy. Last December, he reunited the group’s side project, The Network, and dropped out Money Money 2020 Part II: I told you! He also teased the new music for Green Day earlier this month.
Green Day is also set to perform with Machine Gun Kelly (along with four other major bands) at the three-night Music Fest leading up to the Super Bowl between February 10 and 12.
Rock fans can also check out Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker, as well as Måneskin performing on Dick Clark’s New Years Eve special on ABC tonight (December 31). Go to newyearsrockineve.com and log in.
