Brenda Lucas: Community Update for Saturday, November 5 | Features/Entertainment

GOODBYE: Heaven got sweeter on October 21 when Barbara Blackburn left her earthly home to live in a mansion where there is no pain, no suffering, no disappointment or hate. Barbara, a faithful reader of this column for years and originally from Catlettsburg, Kentucky, seemed like a cheerful Christian with a heart of gold. The 91-year-old former Kenova resident was a mother of three daughters – Trudy Dingess from Ceredo, Judy Solar from North Carolina and Lindy Saunders from Virginia; wife of her husband, James, 71; and grandmother of seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. It was sad news when I picked up the morning paper and saw that another of my loyal readers, whom I called my special friend, had passed away. May God’s love comfort the family in this time of grief and great loss.

SERVICE: The lives of those who have died in the past 12 months are celebrated on Sunday, November 6, during All Saints’ Sunday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
