PHOENIX – People can get a taste of New Orleans’ French Quarter from here in the valley at a Cajun festival taking place in downtown Chandler next month.
Tickets are on sale now for the Angry Crab Shack Southwest Cajun Festival on February 26 at Dr. AJ Chandler Park (178 E. Commonwealth Ave.). General admission is $ 12 for families Festival which will run from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the price rising to $ 20 at the door.
In addition to Mardi Gras favorites like okra, frog legs, donuts, and king’s cake, people can also enjoy live painting, waders, magicians, a catering contest, and a chariot of Mardi Gras, according to a press release.
Giant seafood broths created by Angry Crab Shack will be posted at several locations around the event, along with a drink tent known as ‘The Swamp’ which features hurricanes, frozen daiquiris and other cocktails on the Mardi Gras theme.
Other activities include decorating Mardi Gras masks for kids, cornhole, jenga, connect oven, checkers, kong pong, ladder golf, maze and a live alligator petting zoo.
Jazz, blues and zydeco groups will provide entertainment, as well as a DJ and a walking band.
“Whether it’s the smell of seafood boiling, the sounds of our marching bands, the thrill of our live alligators or the thousands of pearls thrown, we want you to feel like transported inside NOLA. ! ” David Horen, director of events for producer Forty8 Live !, said in the statement.
The thousands of pearls will be thrown from the second story of French Quarter replica balconies, event organizers said. People are also encouraged to wear costumes.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Greater Cause Foundation, which funds various organizations including the Children’s Cancer Dream Network, Military Assistance Mission, 100 Club of Arizona, Salt River Wild Horse Management Group, Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank and Heidi’s Village.
