The Palm Springs International Film Awards will honor Cate Blanchett with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress

PALM SPRINGS — Cate Blanchett is the recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, for Tár, the Palm Springs International Film Awards announced.

The Film Awards will take place in person on January 5, 2023 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the festival continuing through January 16, 2023.

“Cate Blanchett is truly one of the best actresses of this generation, whose performances are always extraordinary, no matter the role. In her last film Tar, Cate perfectly embodies Lydia Tár as a conductor at the peak of her career whose life begins to fall apart,” Festival President Harold Matzner said in a statement. “There is no one better suited for this role, and it is our honor to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, to Cate Blanchett.”

Blanchett has previously been honored at the festival with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress (2016) for Carol and Truth, Career Achievement Award and Ensemble Performance Award Babel (2007). Past Desert Palm Achievement Award winners include Jessica Chastain, winner of Best Actress last year, as well as Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Olivia Colman, Marion Cotillard, Viola Davis, Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman, Saoirse Ronan, Charlize Theron and Renée Zellweger. Blanchett joins previously announced winners this year Colin Farrell (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor) and Sarah Polley (Director of the Year Award).

From writer-producer-director Todd Field comes Tár, starring Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár, the groundbreaking conductor of a major German orchestra. We meet Tar at the height of her career, as she prepares for both a book launch and a highly anticipated live performance of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Over the next few weeks, his life begins to unfold in a singularly modern way. The result is a searing examination of power, its impact and sustainability in today’s society. The Focus Features film also features Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, Allan Corduner along with Mark Strong.

Cate Blanchett is an internationally acclaimed, Academy Award-winning actress, producer, artistic director, humanitarian and dedicated member of the arts community.
