Condor acquires the French rights to “Joyland”

CARACHI: The local entertainment industry celebrated with immense pride last month Joyland became the first Pakistani film to be selected for Cannes. With the film festival less than a week away, another exciting news has poured in for the team joyland. Directed by Saim Sadiq, the film has now been picked up by Condor Entertainment to make joyland available to the French public.

“We are delighted to offer the French public this pure gem. ‘Land of Joy’ is so fresh: we are continually surprised with each sequence, by the turns of the story and the exceptional level of achievement. And we feel that the arthouse audience, which is very curious, will be very excited to discover Pakistani society,” Alexis Mas de Condor shared with Variety.

Co-produced by Sarmad Khoosat and starring Sania Saeed, Sohail Sameer and Sarwat Gilani, joyland tells the story of a patriarchal family yearning for the birth of another boy. Meanwhile, their youngest son secretly joins an erotic dance theater and falls in love with an ambitious trans starlet.

joyland is not the first time that Saim Sadiq has been recognized for his creative genius. In 2019, his short film Darling won the Horizons Award for Best Short Film at the Venice Film Festival.
