On Thursday, the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) invited national and foreign artists to participate in the Gibara International Film Festival (FIC) from August 2 to 6.

The call, published on the event website, indicates that it will be possible to compete with works of long and short fiction, long and short documentary, animation and video art produced until May 14. .

Created on the initiative of the eminent Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solas, the FIC seeks to encourage the production of a humble, highly aesthetic and ethical cinema.

Some 95 films from 26 countries competed at the 2019 edition of this annual festival, to which American actor Ron Perlman was invited. The FIC 2020 and 2021 editions had to be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Located in the province of Holguin, the city of Gibara will also host from April 18 to 21 the sixth edition of the National Film Festival for Children and Teenagers “Lights of Creation”.

Sponsored by the National Federation of Cine-Clubs (FNCC) and the “Voice of Audiovisual” project, this festival aims to stimulate the realization and appreciation of cinema among adolescents and young children.

As part of the program of activities for this event, the organizers will show audiovisuals and organize workshops, community visits, lectures and competitions for children.
