OSWEGO – The Oswego Dragon Boat Festival returns from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 in Breitbeck Park on the Oswego waterfront. A $100 early bird discount is available to community and commercial teams who register before June 1st. Friends, family and colleagues are invited to a day filled with live music featuring the band Off the Reservation, Dragon Boat racing, the team tent city, Heroes Challenge course, games, food and more.
Team registration includes places for 16-20 plus a drummer, one day of practice before the event, plus entry to the Saturday festival. Event pricing varies and teams are encouraged to register by June 1 and receive the $100 discount. Call the YMCA of Oswego at 315-342-6082 for more information.
Spectators will be able to watch authentic 40-foot Hong Kong-style dragon boats as they race through the Oswego Harbor channel behind the park. The evening training sessions will begin on Wednesday August 3 and will continue until Friday August 5.
The Oswego Dragon Boat Festival also includes a special noontime event, the Heroes Challenge, a race between area emergency service providers including police, fire, ambulance and more.
Races and more continue throughout the day on Saturday, August 6 starting at 9 a.m., and will include live music starting at 1 p.m., games, food and more in the park. This is a free family event with the support of Mayor William J. Barlow Jr. and the City of Oswego. The Oswego Dragon Boat Festival is a free spectator event that showcases Oswego’s Bretibeck Park park and waterway.
Proceeds from this event provide financial support for YMCA of Oswego programs that directly impact children, families and seniors in the community.
