Edelman’s Judy John Named President of Cannes Lions Public Relations Jury

CANNES, FRANCE: The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has named Edelman Global Creative Director Judy John as President of the Lions PR Jury for the 2022 edition of the festival.

In 2019, Edelman appointed John as its first Global Creative Director as the company pushed further into creative services. Previously, she was Creative Director for North America and CEO of Canada at Creative Store Leo Burnett, where she worked on the #LikeAGirl Super Bowl campaign for Always, Amazon’s first Super Bowl commercial and the first Samsung’s global Olympic campaign.

Alongside John, Raja Rajamannar, Global Director of Marketing and Communications, Mastercard, as Creative Effectiveness Lions Jury Chair; Daryl Lee, Global CEO of IPG Mediabrands, as Media Lions Jury Leader; and Mariana O’Kelly, Ogilvy USA’s Global Creative Director, as the Radio and Audio Lions Jury Chair.

The Creative B2B Lions category was added this year, with Paul Hirsch, Global President and Chief Creative Officer at Doremus, serving as judging chair for this category.

Cannes Lions made the announcement of the president of the jury this week during the opening of registrations.

This year will mark the return of the physical festival to Cannes from June 20-24 after the cancellation of the 2020 edition and a virtual event in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Entries will be accepted “from Lions who represent the breadth and diversity of creative and effective work in the brand communications industry,” according to Susie Walker, vice president of awards and insight for Lions. The festival was criticized last year for a perceived lack of diversity in the learning program at Roger Hatchuel Academy.
