Critically acclaimed Egyptian producer and screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy is set to join the World Cinema Dramatic Competition jury at this year’s Sundance Film Festival 2022.
The jury includes 16 world-renowned film critics and filmmakers, including British filmmaker Andrew Haigh and Chinese curator La Frances Hui. The festival will feature a handful of competitions spanning the cinematic spectrum, from the US Drama Competition and the US Documentary Competition to the World Cinema Documentary Competition and the Short Film Program Competition.
This isn’t Hefzy’s first rodeo, however. He previously served on the jury of the 75th Venice International Film Festival as well as the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival (2011). In 2020, Hefzy was one of Variety’s 500 most influential business leaders, pioneers in the global media industry and the following year he was honored with the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de France. for his significant contribution to the Arab cinematographic space.
As part of his efforts to support the region’s thriving film scene, Hefzy founded Film Clinic in 2006, which has since grown into one of the leading production companies in the MENA region.
The next edition of the Sundance Film Festival will take place on its online platform, festival.sundance.org, from January 20 to 30.
