Muscat – The first Batinah International Film Festival will open on November 12, according to a North Batinah official.
The four-day festival will include training workshops, specialized discussion sessions on various aspects of cinema, and competitions for Omani and international short documentaries. Movie stars and filmmakers are expected to arrive from other Gulf states and the Arab world to attend the festival.
“The Batinah International Film Festival aims to revitalize and develop the film movement in the sultanate, in addition to boosting tourism,” said Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of North Batinah.
Dr Humaid al Ameri, chairman of the board of directors of the Omani Society for Films and Theater (OSFT), informed that the society is working to encourage the growth of cinema throughout the sultanate by launching film festivals. films in various governorates.
According to Ameri, the Batinah International Film Festival is an opportunity to present the cultural, civilizational, artistic, heritage and historical diversity of the North Batinah and South Batinah governorates, in addition to discovering new talents in the fields of cinema such as writing, directing and acting. .
Mohammed bin Abdullah al Ajmi, director of the festival, said: “It will include workshops on screenwriting, directing, cinematography and presentations on how the film industry can be turned into a source of income.” .
