Increase in cash prizes for the National Road Safety Short Film Festival

Bhubaneswar: The cash prizes for the National Road Safety Short Film Festival, 2022 are increased. The cash prize for best film has increased from Rs.50,000 to Rs. 1,000,000. Similarly, the prize for the first runner-up has increased from Rs.40,000 to Rs. 80,000 and the second cash prize is now Rs. 60,000. This was announced by Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary of the Department of Commerce and Transport during the launching ceremony of the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department, said, “Seeing the enthusiasm, to encourage more people to send in applications, we have increased the prize money for the films for the Odia and Non-Odia language categories Cash awards for the individual section remain as they are.

The winners will be selected by a jury made up of film industry professionals and non-industry professionals, luminaries from different walks of life. During the event, the jury members of the festival were introduced including Dharitri Patnaik, Entrepreneur and Executive Chairman, Humara Bachpan, Kuna Tripathy, Chairman, Odisha Film Development Corporation and Odia Film Actor, Manish Mundra – Film Producer and National Award Winning Philanthropist, Onir, National Award Winning Filmmaker and LGBTQIA+ Activist, Rajesh Touchriver, National Award Winning Filmmaker, Sabyasachi Mishra, Odia Film Actor and Social Worker, Siddhanta Mahapatra, Odia Veteran Film Actor and Former MP, Dr. Sruti Mohapatra, Disability Rights Activist, Founder and Head, Swabhiman, Sujit Mahapatra, Secretary, Bakul Foundation and Author, Tanaya Patnaik, Executive Director, Sambad Group and Varsha Priyadarshini, Film Actress and Social Activist, Founder, Sammanita .

Registration is open for the National Road Safety Short Film Festival, a first festival of its kind organized in the country. The deadline for submitting applications is 3rd June 2022. The festival aims to raise awareness of road safety issues and promote increased engagement in road safety cooperation in the state of Odisha as well as across the country to reduce road accidents and related deaths.

Filmmakers, amateur cinephiles and students can apply. The film can be a Documentary, Experimental, Narrative, Fiction, Non-fiction or Animation. The original film must be in FULL HD format (1920×1080) or higher. The total duration of the film cannot exceed 120 seconds (2 minutes), including the opening and closing credits.

The festival will be in two categories – Odia language and non-Odia languages, English subtitles shall be mandatory for all entries. Odia Category:

  • Best Film: Rs.100,000, First Runner Up – Rs.80,000, Second Runner Up – Rs.60,000
  • Best Director: Rs.25,000, Best Screenplay: Rs.25,000
  • Best Cinematography: Rs.25,000, Best Actor/Actress: Rs.25,000

Category outside Odia:

  • Best Film: Rs. 100,000, First Runner Up – Rs.80,000, Second Runner Up – Rs.60,000
  • Best Director: Rs.25,000, Best Screenplay: Rs.25,000
  • Best Cinematography: Rs.25,000, Best Actor/Actress: Rs.25,000

The festival will be held in Rourkela (June 18 & 19, 2022) & Puri (June 24-25, 2022).
