Jakarta music festival We The Fest will be back in September.
The music festival will take place from September 23 to 25, she announced on social networks on Saturday April 23. “We look forward to seeing you again, at the most anticipated edition which will be the best of times,” the post read.
This will be We The Fest’s first in-person event in three years. It was last held in 2019 at the Jakarta International Expo with headliners Rae Sremmurd and Troye Sivan. The 2020 edition was canceled as organizers said they were working to reschedule it for 2021, although that ultimately did not happen. In September 2020, We The Fest went live with a lineup that included Lewis Capaldi, Masego, Pamungkas, Kunto Aji and more.
In January, We The Fest organizer Ismaya Live revealed plans to hold an in-person music festival in 2022, with marketing manager Pratista Ayu citing “huge demand from the Indonesian public for festivals to return offline music”.
Ismaya Live is also the promoter of the EDM-centric Jakarta Warehouse Project, which hosted an online event last December dubbed DWP Virtual.
We The Fest joins a slew of Indonesian music festivals announced for 2022 – a wave kicked off by Joyland Festival in Bali last month. Java Jazz, JogjaROCKarta Festival and Berdendang Bergoyang are just a few of the festivals taking place in the coming months. International artists returning home for concerts include Justin Bieber, Louis Tomlinson and Hardwell.
Indonesian artists and music fans reacted with joy to the news of We The Fest’s return. “The wait is finally over!” Sal Priadi commented, while Tanayu wrote, “Yeah finally.”
Fans, meanwhile, flooded We The Fest’s comment sections with their wishlists for lineups, from Harry Styles to The 1975 to Tame Impala.
