Dodge County ended the Kiwanis Festival on a high note and finished it with a 2-1 record over the three tournament days.

The Wildcats scored twice in the first period, then controlled play to the end, fending off Rochester John Marshall for a 3-1 victory in men’s hockey in a Festival consolation game at Graham I Arena on Thursday. .

The Wildcats will go 6-4-0 overall early in the new year after outscoring two Rochester teams in the Kiwanis Festival Division Gold category. Dodge County opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over Century on Tuesday, before losing 6-1 to Fargo South / Shanley on Wednesday.

The Wildats reacted well against JM, as Jake Isaak scored a power-play goal at 8:44 of the game to give his team the advantage for good.

Isaak then set Gryffon Funke up for his third goal of the tournament with just over 3 minutes left in the opening period.

The score remained 2-0 after two periods, as Rockets goaltender Cody Vlasaty did his best to keep his team in the game. Vlasaty made 41 saves in the game, including 17 in the second half alone.

The Wildcats sealed their victory when Gavin Giesler and Easton Hammill prepared Brendon Wolesky for a 6:55 shorthanded goal in the third.

JM (4-7-0) spoiled Dodge County’s shutout attempt with 2:51 left when Adam Hegrenes scored his first goal, to bring the Rockets down to 3-1.

It was all the offense JM could handle, as Dodge County goaltender Isaac Dale made 12 saves in the win.
