The Lee University Presidential Concert Series will conclude its 29th season with a performance by Louis Lortie, one of Canada’s most esteemed concert pianists. The performance will take place on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Pangle Hall.
On the program, music by Faure, Debussy, Brahms and Liszt.
“We are so lucky to have a performer of this reputation to present a program like this, with beautiful ballads that people are sure to recognize and enjoy,” said Darlia Conn, series director of presidential concerts.
Originally from Quebec, Mr. Lortie made his debut with the Orchester symphonique de Montréal at the age of 13 and, as a mature performer, he is a frequent guest soloist with some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. “Lortie displays a combination of total spontaneity and maturity that only great pianists possess.” (London Times)
In recital and chamber music, Mr. Lortie performs in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world, including Wigmore Hall in London, Philharmonie de Paris, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall, Beethovenfest Bonn and the Liszt Festival Raiding. Recent special projects include performances of the complete Liszt’s “Années de Pèlerinage” in one evening and a complete cycle of Beethoven sonatas filmed at Salle Bourgie in Montreal and broadcast on Medici TV in 2021.
Mr. Lortie is co-founder and artistic director of the LacMus International Festival on Lake Como and master in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels. In 1984 he won the first prize in the Busoni competition, and he was also the winner of the Leeds competition in the same year. A prolific recording artist, Mr. Lortie’s 30-year relationship with Chandos Records has produced a catalog of over 45 recordings on the label.
