The film will be the first in a trilogy and Renny Harlin will direct all three.

Harlin said: “My mother instilled in me a love of cinema through the world of Hitchcock and other masters of suspense and horror.

“My breakthrough in Hollywood came with the success of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 4’.

“It’s only fitting that I return to my favorite genre with the incredibly well written ‘The Strangers’ trilogy.

“The characters and storyline are all grounded in reality and provide me with an endless tapestry of haunting visuals to bring these films to life.”

The film will tell the story of Petsch’s character, whose car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, while traveling across the country with her boyfriend, who will be played by Gutierrez.

Following the breakdown, the couple spend the night in an isolated rental house, but they are terrorized by three masked strangers.

Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland wrote the first movie treble.

Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Charlie Dombeck and Alastair Birlingham will produce the film.

Solomon said: “When we decided to remake ‘The Strangers’, we felt there was a bigger story to tell that could be as powerful, scary and terrifying as the original and could really expand that world. .

“Shooting this story as a trilogy allows us to create a hyper-realistic and terrifying character study.

“We are fortunate to partner with Madelaine Petsch, an incredible talent whose character drives this story.”
