Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival Raises Money for Hospital Foundation and Cancer Foundation – Nanaimo News Bulletin

The Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival will team up with a Nanaimo grocery store to raise funds for the Nanaimo Regional Hospital Foundation.

In a press release, Fairway Gorge Paddling Club, organizer of the event, said it will work in conjunction with Fairway Market for the Toonie-For-Our-Town fundraiser in which shoppers at the Nanaimo North Town Center store will be asked to donate to the campaign.

The non-profit canoe club produces the festival, which runs from Friday July 8 to Sunday July 10 at Maffeo Sutton Park, raising money to help fight cancer. There will be a carnation ceremony on Saturday, with flowers being sold for $2 and proceeds going to the Vancouver Island Chapter of the BC Cancer Foundation, according to the press release.

“We are thrilled with this weekend’s festival and are thrilled to give back to the community through the Fairway Market campaign,” festival director Erik Ages said in the press release. “We have spent much of the year working on the Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival, and we are happy to contribute to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation.

Fairway Market is a reputable sponsor of the Nanaimo Boating Club and Festival.
