It’s Oceanside Film Week and the Oceanside International Film Festival is taking place in the heart of California’s Oceanside Cultural District. This special opening night brings together two of the cultural quarter’s key pillars; OIFF and OMA.

Before the screening, join director BLUE CRUSH and the movie stars as they walk the carpet at the 2022 Opening Night Red Carpet Ceremony taking place at the Oceanside Museum of Art in downtown Oceanside. This outdoor event from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday will be accompanied by a networking mixer allowing local and away filmmakers to meet and mingle ahead of the week of screenings.

Blue Crush (2002) – Directed by John Stockwell, Lizzy Weiss (Story) and John Stockwell (Screenplay), produced by Brian Grazer.
Blue Crush was an ambitious film to shoot amidst the elements and against the complexities of water, it was a landmark achievement in both cinematic technique and subject matter for its time. A production that sent cultural ripples through its landscape, the film empowered and spoke to millions of young women across the planet and entire industries were born as a result. Clothing lines targeted at young women have been developed by all the major brands in the surf industry and tens of thousands more people have signed up to learn to surf. Global surf brands that have focused on young men for decades have launched their own brands targeting women. To this day, the inclusiveness and image of the sport is changing following the release of this film. You’ll hear behind-the-scenes stories and more for the first time in this post-screening panel discussion with Stockwell about how art can drive progress and change an entire industry forever.

The film featured an emerging cast featuring a young Kate Bosworth as Anne Marie, Michelle Rodriguez as Eden, Sanoe Lake as Lena, Matthew Davis as professional footballer Matt
Tollman, Mika Boorem as Penny, Faison Love as Leslie, and a whole host of real surfers from Hawaii and Australia.

Pro Surfers in Film – Kala Alexander, Tamayo Perry, Fred Patacchia Jr., Keala Kennelly, Rochelle Ballard, Kate Skarratt, Layne Beachley, Megan Abubo, Brian Keaulana, Brock Little, Kai Garcia, Tom Carroll, Jamie O’Brien, Bruce Irons, Braden Dias, Kalani Robb, Makua Rothman, and a very young, now world champion, Coco Ho playing the young Anne Marie, the character of Kate Bosworth.
