Reboot Theater Company Announce Edinburgh Festival Fringe Run Of CANDY

Reboot Theater Company announces a month-long run of Tim Fraser’s 5-star Candy show at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, taking place at Underbelly Bristo Square from August 5-29. This follows a sold-out sale at London’s King’s Head Theater in 2020 and a special online performance released last year. Candy was originally a 15-minute play performed as part of Reboot: Shorts at the Bunker Theater in London in 2018, selected by Reboot Theater from over 1,000 entries, before being developed into a full stage play.

Director Nico Rao Pimparé and Michael Waller, co-founder of Reboot Theater Company and performer of Candy, said: “Rehearsing this play for the Fringe is fresher and more exciting than ever. We can’t wait to finally bring Candy to Edinburgh audiences, having been postponed twice, and experience the show live with audiences. This piece’s journey has evolved through various interpretations, but it’s the production we’re particularly proud of and most excited for.

Tim Fraser, author of Candy, said: “It’s a play about identity, masculinity and love. I’m so excited to finally share this story with the Edinburgh Fringe audience, where I hope people will fall in love with the character and the story. I’m thrilled to present an even more developed version of Candy, ready to capture hearts and imaginations. This story is close to my heart and I look forward to living it with all of you. “

Will fell head over heels in love with the seductive “Candy” singer. The only problem: she’s her best friend in drag. As Will struggles to make sense of his new feelings, his life crumbles to the sidelines. Should he grab life by its bullshit and tell Candy how he feels? Could he ever be with her? And what does it really mean to love him?

Candy (King’s Head Theatre, Blue Elephant Theatre/ZOOTV) is Tim Fraser’s first play. He co-wrote Juniper Mae, a series of illustrated children’s books for Flying Eye Books due for release in 2023 and has a short film adaptation of Candy in development. Tim holds an MA in Screenwriting from NFTS and is part of BBC Writersroom’s Voice of London 2022.

Michael Waller plays Will. He is an actor, producer and doctor. As an actor, his credits include Candy (King’s Head Theatre, Blue Elephant Theatre/ZOOTV), Reboot: Shorts 1 & 2 (Bunker Theatre), Love and Money, Macbeth: Reboot (Network Theatre) and Stace in Space (Vaults Festival, Waterloo). Michael is the co-founder of Reboot Theater Company and works as a respiratory physician specializing in cystic fibrosis.

Nico Rao Pimparé is an Anglo-Indian-French director, actor and former physicist. As a theater director, his credits include Diary of a Somebody (Seven Dials Playhouse), Rainer (Arcola Theatre), Candy (King’s Head Theatre, Blue Elephant Theatre/ZOOTV), Reboot: Shorts 2, The Interpretation of Dreams (Bunker Theatre), Jules César (International Voice4Thought Festival, Dakar), Dead Souls (Théâtre N16), and Nozdryov (Young VicFreshworks).

Performances take place from August 5 to 29, 2022 (except August 15), 3:50 p.m.
