Sarajevo Film Festival will pay tribute to Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa – Deadline


The next edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival will host a retrospective of films by Ukrainian screenwriter, director and producer Sergei Loznitsa in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the art of cinema.

titles such as My joy, In the fog and Donbass will be presented as part of the “Tribute To” program at the festival this year. Other works from the esteemed author’s catalog to be screened include documentaries Maidan and Bab Yar. The context and short films Portrait, reflections. Directors cut and A night at the opera.

Loznitsa will also receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award at the opening ceremony of the festival.

Kyiv-born Loznitsa has been making films since 1996 and has directed 25 documentaries and four fiction films. His beginnings, My joypresented in competition at Cannes in 2010 while his next film, In the fog, received the FIPRESCI prize in Cannes. His third title, A sweet creature also played competitively on the Croisette while his fourth title, Donbassearned him the Best Director award when he starred in Un Certain Regard in 2018.

The Sarajevo Film Festival has collaborated with Loznitsa several times in the past, including in the Sarajevo Bridges anthology, of which he edited the section reflections.

28e edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival is held from August 12 to 19.
