Future RUGBY stars enjoyed two great days of action at Bridport Rugby Club.
First up was the West Dorset Schools Tag Rugby Festival for Years 5 and 6 in glorious autumn sunshine.
Eleven schools with over 140 children participated, including two mandatory girls on the pitch at all times.
The 55 eight-minute matches were officiated by coaches and former exemplary Under-12s, Under-13s and Under-14s, who did an excellent job.
St Catherine’s was the convincing winner, with Marshwood coming second.
Donated by Morrisons Community Support, a free burger or sausage roll was eagerly consumed by players after the action.
And then, on Sunday 2, two magnificent victories for the Bridport juniors in fifteen-a-side D&W Cup matches.
Ayo Frazer’s Under-14s beat mighty North Dorset 37-19, while Pete Dacey’s Under-16s beat Weymouth 53-36.
Meanwhile, the Bridport Under-15s traveled to Sherborne for their Dorset & Wiltshire Junior Cup tie, despite only a few weeks of training since the start of the season.
Bridport worked tirelessly and led the game from the whistle.
Both teams had good challenges and had to work hard to keep possession, but after the first half Bridport were ahead.
Sherborne started strong in the second half but Bridport managed to stop every attack and keep the score in their favor to edge the hosts 27-22.
Bridport Under-11s hosted Crewkerne at the Brewery Ground where they had an incredible game and managed to finish with an excellent try count in a 22-5 win.
The Bridport Under-14s attended a Tens festival organized by Bath Rugby which involved many clubs from the Dorset and Wiltshire area.
Although the games were not a win or lose match, they received points for every try and were one of the highest scoring teams at the festival.
There was a narrow defeat for the Bridport Under-13s who traveled to Swanage with an eight-man squad.
Blues team up with Swanage ready players to create a team at 11, and lost 12-7.
Despite the result, Bridport were immensely proud of the way Bridport players played and worked with their loanees.
