JTeam Mambilla collected 620 points to emerge victorious from the just-concluded 2022 edition of the Abuja Military Barracks Youth Sports Festival organized by the Defense Headquarters.
The boys and girls competition which featured football, basketball, badminton and volleyball also saw team Lungi finish second with 480 points while host team Mogadishu came third with 400 points .
The NAF Base and Zuma teams came fourth and fifth with 320 points and 280 points respectively.
The sports festival which attracted more than 500 young people ended on Thursday with the closing ceremony presided over by the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, at the renovated sports complex of the sports complex of the cantonment from Mogadishu to Abuja.
Irabor, who was represented by the director of education of the defense headquarters, Rear Admiral Chibuike Azike, explained that the championship was intended to profitably occupy the young people of the barracks to keep them away from social vices and free their hidden talents and their potential in the sport.
“I have no doubt in my mind that, as has been the case in the past, new talent will be discovered from this championship among which we hope to have prospects for the future which will blossom into national champions and international.
“It is pertinent to say that the need to provide a conducive environment for the youth of our barracks to develop their God-given sporting talents, informed the remodeling of this football sports complex in which we all sit today,” did he declare.
Earlier, the sports director of the defense headquarters, AVM Framah Batnah, said that the essence of the sports festival is to foster cooperation among the youths in the different barracks.
Batnah added that the competition will also ensure that the youngsters pay attention to their fitness and healthy lifestyle.
