The Birmingham Cricket League plans to hold a Hoover Cricket Festival at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex this Friday, April 15.
The festival will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will include an eight-team cricket tournament at the Hoover Met baseball fields at 1070 Buccaneer Drive. The biggest rivalry matches are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
There will also be Indian food, Bollywood music and live commentary. Dining partners include Coca-Cola, Bawarchi, Kabob-Licious Indo-Pak Grill, Alabama Halal Foods, Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar, and Taco Mama.
The festival is supported by Destination Hoover International, a non-profit organization established in 2018 to foster cultural exchange and connections between Hoover locals and people around the world.
A Birmingham Cricket League representative told Hoover City Council on April 4 that cricket is the second most popular sport in the world, behind football, but the Birmingham Cricket League is struggling to gain traction with the growth of the sports in this area.
Festival organizers said they hope the tournament will attract families and children and help to further stimulate interest in cricket in this community. Most Birmingham-area cricketers hail from Hoover, organizers said.
