THE LAST FILM SHOW wins top prize at the Asian World Film Festival in Hollywood

Mumbai (Maharashtra): The eight-member jury has awarded the festival’s top prize BEST IMAGE – SNOW LEOPARD to Pan Nalin’s The Last Film Show.

This year’s 8th edition of the AWFF (Asian World Film Festival) saw many famous titles from across Asia and Eastern Europe compete for that coveted Snow Leopard award leading to Oscar buzz. This year, the festival opened with the South Korean hit film The Hunt by Lee Jung-Jae and the closing film was Decision To Leave by Park Wan-chook. The lineup also included many Asian films that are entries for the 95th Academy Awards.

Before awarding Snow Leopard the Best Picture award for the latest film, the jury delivered their unanimous verdict and delivered their statement to the packed Saban Theater in Beverly Hills: “The best picture encompasses everything we want to see in a big film: good narration, moving films. performance, technically appealing, visually intoxicating and heartfelt connectivity with the audience. We received a series of very good films this year and it was a difficult decision. But this film reminded us why we love cinema. It reminded us of the ability of cinema to enchant and inspire. It’s a love letter to cinema, to light and to life itself. The film is an ode to cinema as well as filmmaking. It celebrates film and the cinematic experience. Said Janet Nepales and Pitof Jean-Christophe.

Writer-director Pan Nalin and producer Dheer Momaya received the trophy. Nalin, while accepting the award, said, “What an honor, what we have done in our solitude continues to echo in multitudes around the world. Through The Last Film Show, we wanted to not only entertain you, but also bring you closer to that child within you so you can witness the fearlessness of coming-of-age drama. Last Film Show, which is a semi-autobiographical story, has now found a new home in the hearts of Asian audiences. We look forward to its theatrical release in Japan on January 20, 2023, followed by South Korea. We would like to thank this distinguished jury for showing your faith in The Last Film Show.

Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur said, “Last Film Show is a heartfelt ode to cinema, and this award reinforces our vision. What an honor to see the declaration of Janet Nepales and Pitof Jean-Christophe on the film! We’re glad Nalin’s love letter to film is receiving so much love from audiences around the world, and I join him and Dheer in thanking the AWFF for honoring our little film with a big heart.

Producer Dheer Momaya added, “This award comes at the right time as we are busy with screenings for the 95th Academy Awards. In our ever-changing world, having the Asian World Film Festival in the heart of Hollywood is indeed a great feat. For a year, we pushed for the Last Film Show experience in theaters to be reserved, so today this award restores our faith in cinema and the collective cinematic experience.

Samuel Goldwyn Films will release The Last Film Show on December 2, 2022. And the film is represented in international markets by Orange Studio in France. Indian companies involved in the production include Jugaad Motion Pictures, Monsoon Films, Chhello Show LLP and Roy Kapur Films. The French co-producer is Virginie Films.
